History

On the 8th April 1923 it was resolved, after lengthy discussion to construct a new church building. By March 1924 plans were drawn up for the new church which would seat 430 people. A building fund was opened for the new church building at the Government Savings Bank. However, all efforts to build the new Church waned, which is hardly surprising when we remember the difficult economic conditions which prevailed during the following years.
In 1934, renewed enthusiasm for a new church building is evident in the minutes of a number of Parish Council meetings. 70 members of the parish had agreed to donate £310 per annum for three years and a loan for £4,000 pounds was granted by the Commonwealth Savings Bank. On 27th April 1935 the Foundation stone was laid by the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Rev. Howard K. Mowll, D.D. The new church was completed on St. Andrew’s Day, 30th November 1935. Pews from the old church were renovated for the new church and 19 additional pews were purchased to complete the seating.
